Houston Ozone Forecast for September 29&30, 2006
Overview: Cold front is through the area and we can expect a mostly clear sky with a drier air mass in place. Expect a slight chance of rain tomorrow with an upper-level disturbance moving through. As winds shift to become out of the southeast, ozone levels should remain in the "Good" category today and tomorrow. |
Good(60-70 ppb)
Today: Partly Cloudy. High of 86. Winds E 10-15.
Cold front has moved through the area dropping dew points behind it. Winds will gradually shift from the north to easterly this afternoon. Although the sky will be mostly clear and temperatures will be in the mid-80's, winds should be strong enough to keep ozone levels in check. Ozone levels will likely remain in the "Good" category today.
Ozone peaks should remain in the "Good" category today. F1 model indicates a peak of 73 ppb occurring in Brazoria county. Believe that ozone levels could reach between 70-80 ppb, but peak area is more likely to be on the west and southwest side of Houston with more of an easterly component to the wind this afternoon.
Good(70-80 ppb)
Discussion:
Moisture will make its return later tonight and tomorrow as winds become more southerly with an 850 mb high located to our east. This high will be with us for most of next week. A 500 mb disturbance could create some showers and thunderstorms around the area tomorrow afternoon. With this possibility and moderate winds forecast, ozone levels should remain in the "Good" category tomorrow.
Ozone peaks should remain in the "Good" category tomorrow. F1 model indicates a peak of 92 ppb in northeast Harris county. Do not believe peaks will get quite that high with moderate wind speeds and chance of rain. Ozone levels could reach between 70-80 ppb, with peaks occurring north/northeast of Houston.
